We sat down with this up and coming sommelier, and one of our Butternut Tribe members @samanthasommelier, to learn all about how she made drinking wine her job!
Tell us who you are / how you got started / why you became a sommelier?
After completing an Intensified Sommelier Training Program at the International Culinary Center of California, I passed my Level II certified exam through the Court of Master Sommeliers. After that I saw food and wine in a completely different way and all I dream of doing is making delicious pairings and creations. I created my blog to share my journey whether it’s my food recipes, the wine I’m enjoying on a lazy Monday night after work, or my in-home wine tasting event business. I crave delicious food, extraordinary wine, and people who encourage me to share my passion. I hope people can use my blog as an inspiring resource and connect them to the beautiful world of wine.
Typical work day?
My typical work day consists of COFFEE, first and foremost. Once I am a human, I start responding to emails, working on my social media, and setting up meetings for partnerships and future events. On days of wine tasting events I am prepping glassware, wine tasting materials, charcuterie/cheese boards, and anything else I will need to make my client’s wine tasting special. When I am not scheduled for a wine tasting I am working on my blog and researching ways to be a better entrepreneur and digital influencer.
What is your favorite Butternut wine? What do you like about it?
My favorite Butternut wine (at the moment) is the Cabernet Sauvignon. I taste a lot of wine for my job and when I am ready to open up a bottle to enjoy for myself I really just want a soft, easy drinking wine. This cab has this perfect amount of dark rich fruit and tannins to balance it out.
Favorite food pairing?
Butternut Cabernet with Capicola!
Favorite way to drink wine?
Spicy thai and riesling on the beach, Butternut Cabernet on my couch watching Netflix
